All work is produced to order, with a usual turnaround time of 7-10 working days. If the job has any special requirements, components or is more complex than usual, please allow a little longer in order to give the work our complete attention and care it needs.

Methods of framing explained

Closed framing

Artwork is placed between the glass and an acid free backing board, then the frame sits around the outside, directly

to the edge of the image.  This is the simplest and most cost effective way of framing a picture, and is generally best

suited to film/music posters and certificates, where the artwork is of a lower value and requires no conservation.  This method would also be used for paintings on canvas or board, but without the need for glass.

Window mount & frame

Window mounts can enhance your artwork as well as creating space around the image, allowing it to breathe and lead the eye in to the point of focus that the eye naturally seeks.  From a conservation aspect the mount acts as a barrier between the artwork and the glass, which can prevent the print from deteriorating over time.  We can advise you on all aspects of this method of framing, and offer various ways of preserving the work where needed. 

Box framing

With box framing the artwork is generally set away from the glass using a fillet of wood.  The depth of the fillet varies depending on what the object is that is being framed.  This method of framing creates depth for the artwork, and is particularly used for framing any 3D object, such as medals, coins, football shirts, shoes, hats etc.  Essential for those items of sentimental or monetary value that you want to show off rather than keep tucked away in a drawer.

Tray & Float framing

Tray framing is a contemporary method used for housing paintings that are on either stretched canvas or wood blocks/board, with no glass being used.  The artwork nests into the frame rather than the frame lipping over tye edge of the painting.  This can either be flush to the front and edge or set back with a little space at the sides - which is the personal choice of the artists/collector.  Float mounting/framing involves attaching a substrate of varying depths behind the print, which you can't see from the front, and attaching that to a back board.  This gives the impression that the print is 'floating' within the frame.  The glass would then be set away from the print so that there is no contact.  This method of framing is very contemporary, and also very precise.  It works particularly well when a print on paper has all four deckled edges intact, as it shows it off to its best.
